I have almost the same configuration, and I've been fighting with it
for a couple of days now. I have EXACTLY the same problem.

- my installation works (with the exception of authentication) if I
use the tracd method. I can browse the wiki, and even the code in
linked svn repository - this seems to indicate to me that all the
software bits are there for trac
- I can browse the svn directory through Apache without trac
- my installation fails when I try to hook it to apache - i get the
list of available projects, and then the same error messages you do
when I select one
- like you, i had authentication working, then removed it to try to
debug this other part of the error
- the /mpinfo test responds fine
- the /mptest steps suggested in various online places works fine too
- this indicates to me that the bridge between apache and python is
probably correct

I'm losing my mind here. My next steps are to try to create some trac
projects inside the htdocs path to see if that makes a difference.

Keep us posted if you find a solution. You are NOT alone out there.
