I was more about avoiding the big directory scanning at startup. Right now Tracker eats up my CPU/HD for 10sec or more at each startup. And this just to verify everything is in the same place where it was last time Tracker was shut down.
Like Jamie previously said, other OSes (think OSX) don't do this, and everybody's happy.
