Yes - but what about building an xpi file and letting the user install it themselves? I usually don't like it that much if other programs are installing things in other programs, and especially the thunderbird plugin consumes quite a few resources. I think the creation of an xpi would be the easier and safer option. Additionally, the addon could be distributed in updated versions via mozilla and managed via the plugin manager. Same for the firefox plugin. Other option: the plugin could be installed via the preferences dialog box?
