This is also what we're doing. (Our limit is 99.) However, I'm a bit
concerned about it because our transactions won't be conducted as real-time,
and the message clearly refers to that. Are others conducting true,
real-time transactions?

Our organization is currently in production with the 276/277 transaction
set.

We have made an up-front determination of the maximum number of claims we
will include as part of a response to a single inquiry request. This
maximum is communicated to our trading partners at the time of initial
implementation.

When an inquiry identifies more than the maximum number of claims, we send
our maximum number of claim responses adding the following category and
status code message:

D0 (Change search criteria) 485 (More information available than can be
returned in a Real Time Mode, narrow current search criteria)

This allows us to provide as much information as possible on the response
while also letting the requestor know that there is more information
available to them.

I don't get your problem.
A single inquiry means a single claim?
or are you thinking of a 276 with more then 99 individual claim inquiries?
You could limit the number of inquiries within a single 276 to 99 in a
trading partner agreement.
You could reject a 276 with more then 99 claim inquiries based on this
agreement.

Or are you thinking about a 277 with more then 99 STC segments?
