Hi there, sorry for delay, unfortunately that's a very bad period.
OK, enough drama. It seems that the problem is that our current ./configure
infrastructure interacts badly with multilib systems, as gentoo, and as yours,
seems to be. Unfortunately there isn't a quick fix for this until I get
access to a multilb system _AND_ until I gain some spare time to fix this
thing.

As a workaround, you can *try* to deal to configure's switches in order
to enforce position of right X includes and libraries.

Regarding the problem that you've reported for 1.0.x, I've some clues
too but it looks rather nasty, so no fix neither here yet.
