So, when would you use one or the other?  In syaptic when you "mark
all upgrades" it brings up a dialog box offering the choice of either
upgrade or dist-upgrade which it calls smart upgrade on the button
which selects it.

Why would you do a "dumb" upgrade <G>

Seriously, should one always use dist-upgrade?
