but be careful... you want to tread lightly on the console/cli of a VMware ESX server... this is not your ordinary linux and probably shouldn't even be considered linux, although it "seems" to be RHEL/CentOS like... you should fear it and respect. We are doing server consolidation now. It's great. We have both w2k3 and CentOS 4.4 VMs.
I plan to use the free VMware server at home to VM-ize my home server so that when I get new hardware, I just move the VM, and presto, done. On 1/25/07, James Brigman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Good call - I read the doc (it chills me to the bone to think of myself having witnessed all that.) and it looks as though they've hit on some important trend info. I wish it were easier to make the call about what effect VMware will have on the progression: my guess is that it will accelerate the 64 bit phase as industry drives consolidation to virtual machines. Heck: I'm ready to convert to all virtuals at home...legally, for free.... I also think it'll give Linux a new foothold in corp. data centers. I've got one Windows fellow-admin who's been surprising in his embrace of Linux after experiencing VMware.... I still want us to have a catchy marketing phrase that'll find itself into the business lexicon. Maybe "Linux: World Leading O/S for server consolidation"? :-) JKB -- TriLUG mailing list : http://www.trilug.org/mailman/listinfo/trilug TriLUG Organizational FAQ : http://trilug.org/faq/ TriLUG Member Services FAQ : http://members.trilug.org/services_faq/
