DOS is a general name for a type of operating systems.  This command line  
interface is not DOS, it's called Bash.

Linux isn't an operating system.  Ubuntu, Trisquel and others are versions of  
the GNU operating systems.

Try writing this in the command line (bash) and press enter:


sudo service gdm start


If it doesn't work, try:


startx
