I bang that drum because I care and want to see the project not only be  
stable, but have some awesome features as well. One of the reasons I brought  
up MATE is due to a huge percentage who are dissatisfied with the current  
desktop and switch away from the default as soon as possible. I understand  
that having the freedom to pick a desktop is a welcome perk, but it also  
shows that the out of the box experience needs work.
