Do you have a spare usb-drive to install live-setup.
So instead of formatting your main drive, you can check if the problem is  
only with your os or kernel or not. If you don't mind, try with Trisquel 8  
and Mini version, or with any other distro your comfortable with. (maybe even  
Ubuntu, even if it's not endorsed by Free community, so you can check if it's  
free/non-free kernel dependent?
