Alsa will take master out also, although the mixer is tedious. I used to
have scripts that would switch between mike and master capture, by typing
the appropriate commands, I lost them, but basically for master it's amixer
set Master capture, has to have capital m on master, same for MIC, in
uppercase, but it still requires using virtual consoles, as real takes the
console when you run it.
