I've wipped up a nice little IPTABLES script with decent commenting that should get most people started, just make sure you read it first. Get it here: http://www2.truman.edu/~pas577/projects/Linux Security/iptables.basic.sh Also, I'm going to use this to plug the Security Quick-Start HOWTO for Linux (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Security-Quickstart-HOWTO/). Just because you have a firewall does not make you safe! The firewall must be setup correctly, and even then it is possible to get around it, and the services let through still have to be properly set up. Security is an active process, not something you just turn on, you must always be vigalent. Your distro probablly has a security mailing list, subscribe to that. Monitor your log files (usually in /var/log). Never run as root. Always try to break your own security. (And for some real paranoia) Trust noone! Ok, done ranting. Oh yeah, you can get my gpg key here (if you can't pull it off a keyserver, I've been having some trouble with that): http://www2.truman.edu/~pas577/talk.html -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 5.5.5 for non-commercial use <http://www.nai.com> iQA/AwUBPXbS2P1TZRsvCt7JEQLaIACghMwVRZ44OB9ZkDU/B6bk/LizGJMAnRlV YMxOx/3V4xwWDajPb3EpIgKq =ZPUR -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
