I think putting them in the experimental tree is a good idea because we can still refactor them there, and people will understand that they are not as close to 'production quality' as the rest. If someone finds one of the others (UDP, xml-rpc, javagroups) to be better for their needs they can always clean and finish it and move it back into the main tree. Honestly I think with a little refactoring we can isolate the parts that differ into one or two classes and it will be really easy to bring them back.
