I believe if you enclose everything in a CDATA block, the html will come
through.  However, as Glenn pointed out, if you have a significant
amount of info for your front page, its better to create your own
xdocs/index.xml file which will overwrite the auto-generated file from
Maven.  We decided that cluttering up the POM with HTML was not optimal.

I do plan on writing a document on the xdoc format that we use for all
documentation.  Hopefully I'll get that done in the upcoming week.
