I finally managed to get maven work after picking up torque and copy-and-pasting the project.xml, maven.xml and xdocs to my project and adapting it. Change a few lines in project xml, try maven, if it works, go on, if it does not work, revert to previouse version and try again. In the distribution of struts you can find struts-blank.war, a basic archive to start from. It contains everything you need to start working with struts. A startup archive for maven would help. Perhaps with some test source, some test xdocs. Simple to install, extract it and run maven. A jar, war and the site will be generated. My 2 cents: a step-to-step tutorial how to start working with maven would help a lot. The tutorial could show the basic configuration of project.xml, how to use custom properties in build.properties (where to find documentation about the properties), how to write xdocs (and where to find documentation about docbook, etc).
