Kevin,

I'm assuming you're using MySQL with InnoDB... perhaps you could post
the relevant section of your my.cnf so some of us could take a look at
it?  There's a couple things with InnoDB that can cause issues.

Or maybe you could just switch to PostgreSQL at some point ;-)
