You need both VirtualGL and the TurboVNC server on the server machine, as well 
as a 3D accelerator on the server. You need only the TurboVNC viewer on the 
client machine. Current docs are at VirtualGL.org and TurboVNC.org and are 
installed locally on your machine when you install the VirtualGL/TurboVNC 
binary packages. Note that there is a known issue with using the Unity window 
manager under Ubuntu 14.04 with the TurboVNC server. The pre-release of 
TurboVNC 2.0 on TurboVNC.org works around this by setting up the 
gnome-flashback session to run in the TurboVNC server session instead. You can 
also just use some other (non-compositing) window manager like Xfce.
