Btw, I'm skeptical that the code below does what you want it to do. :-)
that was kind of my point. In python I just type the obvious and it works. In Perl I have to muck with references, slashes, arrows and the like. Every time I have had to write a nested datastructure I have spent my time debugging that structure.
