It most certainly is not. There are no plans to deprecate the string % operator any time in the foreseeable future. It may, hypothetically, wither away from lack of use (although I doubt it -- so long as there are C programmers, there will be people who like % formatting). If you think it is deprecated, please show me in the official Python documentation where it says so.
