That's because you are using some interpreter (or wrapper) that is not suited for the job (maybe not suited for anything, really ;)). I guess this thing might be IDLE. To get to the core of your question: Just choose your favourite text editor, write the code in a text file, save it as <something>.py and then execute that script.
