Where things have gotten interesting: it appears that someone who
frequents the fan site golden-road.net shouted out the exact price
because he had seen these prizes before and figured out the prices.

That opened up a number of recent issues where some superfans of TPIR
have been relocated by producers to avoid them being heard by
contestants. Apparently the producers have been getting sloppy in
their prize choices, and some of the items have been in the heavy
rotation for so long that it became relatively easy to pick out the
prize.

This becomes reminicent of the Michael Larson "Press Your Luck"
scenario (for the uninitated: Larson realized that the sequence the
boxes were illuminated were not random, and used that fact to rack up
a $100K win in 1982). There was talk of a 20-minute stop tape after
the showdown bids. For a show that (I've heard) runs like clockwork,
if that wasn't suspicious, nothing is.
