And as with Blagojevich interview, it's comedy. Whether you get it or not.
I seem to be the only one who ever read a Rolling Stone interview from
15-20 years back in which he says "he's not doing The Tonight Show, he's
doing a parody/satire of The Tonight Show."
Let's review:
1. Joaquin : Bit.
2. Farrah: she says she was doing a bit.
3. Drew: quite obviously a prearranged bit.
4. Twilight star Kristen Stewart: Okay, trainwreck.
5. Madonna: Bit
6. Post Jail Paris Hilton: Bit. Why do Dave's show if you ain't in on
the joke.
7. Andy Kaufman vs. Lawler: Bit. LAWLER SAYS IT WAS A BIT.
8. Crispin Glover: Bit
9. Michael Richards: stupid and real.
10.Harvey Pekar: 90% Bit. Otherwise he wouldn't have had a movie.
8 bits: 2 bad interviewees.
The package / list writer (BTW, who wrote this Alan Smithee?) seems not
to understand the concept of the preinterview. If something seriously
bombed, it's not live. Retape, pretape. Given the Hicks treatment, it's
unlikely that the suits would ever let someone's manager tell them what
to do ... but all the Joaquin interview warranted was a note on whatever
Time's graphic hit/miss list is.
And seriously, it wasn't an interview but wouldn't the Bill Hicks
incident make a list like this?
Here's a list Time should do as a rebuttal: 10 Memorable Leno interviews
Not Including Hugh Grants. <Dick Clark>Here is the clock: 60 seconds
... and go!</Dick Clark> That people still talk about Farah or Drew's
birthday gift says something about the interviews.
I hope this stupid list (and hey, where's you get that top ten concept
from... why not 9?)is only online and not in the print edition.
