Deconstructing Segment Three: Reminds me of the last season of "The Larry Sanders Show" when the network decided to take away Larry's desk. Larry make a joke about viewers demanding to see his lap during the show.
How many doors onto the set did they build? Seinfeld is a great stand up. Oprah is not. Wow, did she suck the life out of the room. Was she unwilling or unable to commit to the joke? Why not camp it up a bit, really pour on the ego and make Jay feel genuinely uncomfortable instead of the pretend uncomfortableness he displayed. Anyone see that movie he did with Pat Morita? Yeah, acting is not Jay's thing. And when Jerry comedically announced his 9pm talk show, how many viewers (and NBC executives) pondered the concept?
