It's not just their general tabloidiness (which is why I don't care for the big push behind the "Game Change" book since I think it feeds this trend). Politico seems particularly bad about doing stenography masquerading as journalism, and has no problem covering through the lens of the horse race of politics rather than evaluating proposals on the merits. And yeah, they're just the leader in the clubhouse in DC political reporting.

The Politico's mission statement pretty much makes it the actual tabloid in the discussion.
