On Craig's show last night he made fun of the linked picture: http://www.csmonitor.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/media/images/0518-hawaii-five-o-remake-cbs/7911791-1-eng-US/0518-Hawaii-Five-O-remake-CBS_full_600.jpg
He stated it was a prime example of modern police -- the men get bullet-proof vests and the woman "gets an adorable little waistcoat." Personally, I'm fine with Grace Park being treated like a sex object if she is fine with it. I suppose it may just be the specific case to be solved in the pilot, but the show struck me as too close to the "NCIS" franchise of shows, and there are already two of those. I'm also getting tired of the cop shows that rely on fast-paced jump cuts and hip-hop music. Much like my complaint about "The Event" using time-jumping as an easy way to avoid defining character or plot, the quick visuals and up-tempo music serve to make the show appear more intense and fast paced than it is. Kevin Murphy (of MST3k fame) wrote in his book that this phenomena is used most often in movies or TV shows featuring people sitting at computers. However many camera pans and tilts you add and however fast the music is, you are still looking at people typing. If the characters evolve and we see a lot less (and my that I mean none) of Jean Smart, the series might have a chance. It would help if the series can distinguish itself from "NCIS" too. Oh, and if Ms. Park would like to keep appearing scantily clad, the show could have a long shelf life. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
