The left-leaning public affairs channel on the "public service" tier of both DirecTV and Dish Network, one of the two national TV homes of "Democracy Now!" (along with fellow pubserv tier net Free Speech TV), is merging with LA's indie PTV station to form the renamed KCETLink, which will next year become one of KCET's digital subchannels, with an obvious bid to get on other PTV subchannels elsewhere, competing with the WorldView channel from Virginia's indie PTVer MHz Networks and American Public Television's World (formerly PBS World before the net dropped ownership of the channel):
http://www.thewrap.com/tv/column-post/kcet-link-tv-form-satellite-network-kcetlink-60991 Although one can argue that there's no room for three pubaffairs digital subchannels on PTV (especially since World isn't cleared in Chicago, among other cities), it opens up the potentially widest window yet for "DN!", the news program for those who think that MSNBC and Current are too corporate and mainstream, beyond its jerry-rigged net of college, LPFM, pirate, Internet and small market public radio stations and mostly public access TV channels (taking a Feed off of a Dish box on FSTV)--if KCET keeps the show on the channel. -- TV or Not TV ....
