Except - if you watched the Summer Olympics you almost could not avoid the song by the winner of AI last May (I can't name him either off the top of my head). A year or so ago I noticed a couple of my (college-aged) students talking about a concert they had attended by Adam Lambert, who either won or finished very close to the top in AI a while back. I don't offer this as definitive evidence that the AI contestants make a bigger pop culture footprint than those from the other shows, just that in my experience I seem to encounter AI contestants more than I do those from the other shows, who from my perspective seem to just sink into a black hole never again to emerge after their show is over. I also don't have any particular preference for AI over the other shows - in general The Voice seems to have better singers it seems to me. But The Voice seems to have done a better job of selling records (or "downloads") and concert tickets for its judges than for its contestants. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
