In 1996, under pressure from Disney to make the ABC brand more prominent, WLS dropped the "Eyewitness News" title for "ABC7 News" (while ABC O&Os in New York and LA kept the name--and let's not even go into "Action News" on Philadelphia's WPVI)--starting in November sweeps, the name (which a lot of people in Chicago still refer to WLS as--or the nastier "Eyewitless News" coined during the height of its "happy talk" period in the 70s), but the station will still have the top-rated newscasts as they have for the last almost 30 years (ever since they picked up syndicated "Wheel of Fortune" in January 1984) anyway:
