Agreed, Meanwhile, an LA Times article reprinted in today's RedEye in Chicago (the Tribune's young demo free tab) asks why nominees Hall and Oates, Linda Ronstadt and LL Cool J are rock and roll. LL started his career after the split of the 1979, but Hall and Oates and Ronstadt were mainstays of AOR radio before the 1979 mass dump of non-hard rock acts. Hall and Oates responded by starting a non-stop run of hit singles throughout most of the 80s, while Ronstadt responded by putting out her hardest rocking album in "Mad Love"--in which the hit singles were remakes of pop hits from the Hollies and Little Anthony and the Imperials (remade by the Lettermen[!]). She then decided she didn't want to be a pop star anymore and went off to Broadway, Nelson Riddle and the music she heard while growing up Mexican in Arizona.
