Kevin, Thanks for the recommendations. Today was beaches, mostly from Mission Bay north to La Jolla Shores. I managed to drive Sunset Cliffs near sunset. I'll check out Cabrillo and Balboa Park tomorrow, hitting Coronado on the way out of town on Wednesday. If I have time, I'll check out Old Town as well.
Any recommendations for fish tacos? Lucha Libre sounds interesting on general atmosphere alone, but I suspect the fish taco isn't their strongest dish. Ocean Beach is more for surfers (and I have it on authority the tamale stand also sells drugs) but it has a groovy vinyl record shop called The Cow that I swear was the basis for "High Fidelity." I prefer the beaches and bars of Pacific Beach, and a walk around Mission Bay is nice. Kayaking on the bay is the best!
