OK, I'll bite. If TDS continues as a franchise: Hiring from within - I think his television commitments (he's currently on leave from TDS) make this unlikely, but Aasif Mandvi could continue in the vein of both Jon and John. The same with Sam Bee. If they were to go back toward a Craig K. vibe, Jason Jones is well suited.Jessica Williams is already getting a lot of web/social media push, and has done some very good field pieces during her tenure. Her relative newness to the show (3 years) could allow them to shift the show in some other direction. Combine that with her being a young black woman, and it could be tough for the show not to change in some fashion.
Going outside - As the names that come to mind have been included in the last three host replacement discussions, I'm a bit stumped here. Joel McHale, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey all seem like natural fits, given the similar work they've done. I miss Cecily Strong on Update, so why not have her complete the trade with Michael Che? Presuming TDS continues in a similar vein as it did under Stewart, who takes over the anchor desk? Promote someone from within, or (much as CC did 16 years ago when Kilby left for CBS) find a comic upon whom the show can be rebuilt? (And we're assuming that John Oliver and Seth Meyers have no interest in backing out of their current gigs to take over TDS.)
