My family went to see "La La land" for our annual Christmas movie (we enjoyed it). No real spoiler that there is a small, somewhat snarky George Michael joke in the film. As we drove to the Chinese restaurant to get our take-out dinner (another tradition, my wife makes a fancy Christmas Eve dinner, and we ty to keep things casual on Christmas) I was explaining to my 19 year old son who Wham! And George Michael were, and my own somewhat snarky and mean-spirited evaluation of his music, when my daughter interrupted to say that she had read an alert on her phone that GM had died. Suddenly my snark did not seem so clever (in my defense the last think I had said before my daughter gave us the news was that he seemed to have grown and become happier in the last 1 years or so - though I thought maybe he was still struggling with some drug problems).
