The Netflix strategy makes sense. When original content was in its startup
phase Netflix would be happy to be as diverse as possible in the kinds of
shows they were willing to produce. They would also be willing to spend
lots of money to attract talent and to show producers wary of working for a
new platform that they could get money and no studio interference. When all
that becomes established the company moves to its second phase: using their
big data tools to figure out who is watching what when and why, and
analyzing the data to decide what is the most profitable for them.
