I dont think sexual predators are hoping for anything like what I
suggested. Any employee who raped a woman in his office should be fired,
and then arrested and tried in court, and that is what would happen if my
suggestion is followed. But an employee who told a dirty joke, or patted a
coworker he thought he had “that kind of relationship with” on the ass,
maybe should be warned, or suspended but not fired. And an employee who did
not do anything wrong, but is merely accused of it, should not be fired or
disciplined at all.

If Matt Lauer told his bosses last night that he never engaged in any
inappropriate behavior, and was able to provide plausible support, and his
bosses were not able to identify any corroborating evidence to support the
allegations, then I don’t think he should have been fired today (nor do I
think he would have been). I think we know from the reporting today that,
ot the contrary, there was plenty of corroborating evidence for the
accusations, and that Lauer was unable to deny, or at least to do so
plausibly, the charges, and so he was fired - again, as he should have been.
