While it's owned by Amazon these days, IMDB itself pre-dates the web. I first used it during 1990 when it used to be distributed as text files via newsgroups. You downloaded various different tables: titles, actors, directors etc. Then you might download a program that you could compile to query what was basically a database. (You can still download IMDB's datasets! https://www.imdb.com/interfaces/) I find myself veering slightly more towards Wikipedia than IMDB in the main because the interface is just too cluttered. It's not easy to navigate and has too much overbearing advertising. It feels like it's in massive need of a nice clean redesign.
