I never did hear a reason for why the check takes so long, but I don’t think it’s to keep us from gabbing spoilers in advance. I would imagine it has something to do with bureaucracy and paperwork and yadda.
The job definitely helped a lot. As part of my broadcasting major, I had to take at least one class in performance, and I’ve been around the business for almost a quarter of a century now, so while I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, I’d say I’m certainly comfortable. Apologies again if I’ve told this story here before, but my dad and step-mom came out to see the taping, and my dad was worried I’d be nervous. No matter how many times I told him I’d be okay, he kept telling me I should go out to our news set and sit in front of the cameras with the lights on, just to get used to being under the lights.
