Hi all: Those of us buying new systems may need to look at CPU multiplier aspect while matching motherboards to the multicore CPUs.
Northbridge based architecture is seen only in Intel based boards. While the innovation with AMD64 X2 based systems is that you got a HyperTransport (HT). This means that you need to take into account the ratio between the CPU speed and the HT speed options seen in the BIOS. Another sophisticated feature seen is that, there is also an onboard memory controller in AMD64 X2 processor. A good discussion is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperTransport thanks Saifi.
