Some further investigations reveals the following: the problem exists with two PCs only. Two other PCs which I used for testing rendered the page successfully.
But I don't see a difference in the versions of Internet Explorer and I think the configuration of the systems are equal and there are not any important differences. All are Windows 7 systems fairly in default state which are updated to IE 10 recently.
