I guess it's a preference. I often load in the MVable fields into plural
variables and use their single form.
PRODS=ORD<15>
C.PRODS=DCOUNT(PRODS,CHAR(253))
FOR I=1 TO C.PRODS
PROD=PRODS<1,I>
NEXT I
I had just noticed the THE for around the 4th time.
Another use was the labeling of a REPEAT prior to the implementation (or
knowledge of) CONTINUE.
LOOP READNEXT ID ELSE EOF=1
READ CUST FROM F.CUST, ID ELSE GOTO THE.REPEAT
blah, blah
THE.REPEAT:*
REPEAT
