1. Stop unidata telnet service.
  2. Kill any users logged on
  3. Backup the system
  4. Start unidata telnet service.

This is what we do and have been doing for many years.

You should back up the server each day.

  Sorry,

Unidata files
Backup takes about 2 hours.
They are really 24/7. With the exception of Friday 3-5AM. It also seems
that between those hours, every day, the system is at it quietest.
I don't know what they are using at this point. But, I am asking now. I am
just trying to help.
This system is 99.9% Unidata, some files that move between systems but just
a few.

Universe or unidata?
How long does their weekly backup take?
Are they really 24x7, or do they shut down for the backup?
How do they currently do the backup? Uvbackup? Cpio?
How much of their data is outside of u2 on unix files?
