I do this kind of thing all the time using mv.NET. Activity into the DBMS can come from any product, whether it is .NET aware or not (ASP, VB6, Java/Bridge, PHP/COM, etc). mv.NET now has bi-directional updates so that the DBMS can also trigger activity in remote environments, which may be more in line with what you want. If you'd like to try mv.NET, I've put some freeware on my website which allows DBMS commands to be executed from any PC on your network via mv.NET, and now with mv.NET Gateways (Web Services) the commands can be exectuted from anywhere on the internet. Email for free mv.NET trial download info: mv.NET@ again.please.remove.thisNebula-RnD.com When comparing mv.NET to UniObjects or UO.NET consider the following: - A large number of out-of-the-box features in mv.NET need to be manually coded with UO. - Many of the features in mv.NET simply aren't available for UO, such as integration with Visual Studio, separate libraries for ADO.NET and data binding, internet-based connectivity (UO can only connect directly to local sockets), a built-in editor so you can edit MV BASIC code from VS.NET, and server-side triggers to initiate activity in clients or middle-tier servers - Session pooling is a native part of mv.NET - UO is a "one user to one license" tool that isn't scalable without lots of custom code. As soon as people realize UO doesn't scale they often start considering very expensive solutions like RedBack. Don't go to extremes (free to expensive), get a tool that's reasonably priced and versatile for all purposes. - UO is "free" but if you really take a look a the price for mv.NET you may find you're spending a lot more development time and consuming more DBMS licenses with your free tools. - Unlike UO, mv.NET is being enhanced on a regular basis. The product is evolving with many new built-in features that will continue to make OO development for MV developers an enjoyable experience. - mv.NET is cross-platform compatible, which for VARs who support multiple platforms this opens then entire MV marketspace as a potential audience.
