Could the listening program, which presumably is, or could be, a phantom manage the connection once it comes in BUT also fire off another listener / responder to wait for the next connection? And so on? That way there's no need to pass anything anywhere...
Otherwise, if the socket handle is just a number then you could use an item in a file as temporary holding area.
