The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE,
for its initials in Spanish) is a National Research Center located in
Puebla, Mexico, that conducts basic and applied research, and graduate
studies in astrophysics, optics, electronics and computer science. INAOE
provides an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment in
which to perform high quality research, teaching at the graduate level
and supervising master and doctoral students.
INAOE is one of the top ranked National Research Centers in Mexico. The
Computer Science Department at INAOE is one of the leading research
departments in Mexico with 30 full-time researchers, all members of the
National Research System (SNI). We offer Master and PhD degrees and all
our students benefit from a scholarship.
This call offers an opportunity to join the academic staff at the
Department of Computer Science to four highly motivated researchers with
expertise in one of the following areas:
- Robotics: a strong background and experience in the computational
aspects of robotics, in particular in one or more of the following
subareas: control, motion planning, manipulation, navigation, learning,
and cognitive robotics.
- Bio Signals Processing and Medical Computing: expertise in the modern
techniques for signal and image processing, in particular deep learning,
and its application to bio signals and medical images. Knowledge of
affective computing, cognitive science, computational neuroscience,
e-Health, telemedicine, BCI, linguistic signals, and neuroimage
analysis, will be also appreciated.
- Computer Vision: experience and proven knowledge in computer vision
and digital image processing research and applications. Experience in
the use of Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques is desirable.
Applications are sought in any of the areas of computer vision, with
particular emphasis on biomedical applications, security, signal
processing, and embedded computing.
- Language Technologies: excellent and proven knowledge of deep learning
techniques and their application to natural language processing or
computational linguistics, for the analysis of text or speech.
Experience in sequential models and transformers is expected; prior work
on deep learning models for multimodal information processing is a plus.
Other areas of interest include human-machine interaction (in particular
Multimodal HCI or Emotion Analysis in HCI) or novel methods in the
intersection of computational linguistics and signal processing
(addressing the treatment of human language including the various forms
of emitted biosignals, such as paralinguistic features of speech, the
posture and facial gestures of the speaker, or the brain signal emitted
during an interaction).
- Next Generation Computing: strong background in the fundamentals of
analysis and design of algorithms, computer architectures, simulation
techniques, mathematical modeling, computer security, and parallel and
concurrent computing. Suitable experience in
cybersecurity, next-generation networks, parallel architectures, and
cyber-physical systems.
The successful candidate should contribute to the advancement of the
department in one of these areas by developing an externally funded
research program, contributing to the graduate educational mission and
establishing multidisciplinary research and educational collaborations
with other researchers in the department as well as other departments at
INAOE. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates
who can contribute, through their research, teaching and service, to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community. It is desirable that
the candidate is already a member of the National Research System –SNI--
(which recognizes research excellence in Mexico) or a profile that
allows the candidate to become a member of SNI in a short term.
Experience in projects with industry is a plus.
The candidates should have:
- A PhD or equivalent in Computer Science or relevant discipline;
- A demonstrable track record of research excellence, with publications
in the top conferences and
journals in their area of expertise;
- Excellent team working and communication skills.
A researcher in the department of computer science is responsible for:
- Performing high quality original research;
- Publishing the results of her research in top journals and conference
proceedings;
- Collaborating with other researchers in the department, and in general
in the Institute;
- Providing teaching on relevant advanced courses in the graduate
programs in Computer Science; - Supervising master and PhD thesis;
- Participating as internal reviewers for MSc and PhD thesis directed by
other researchers;
- Undertaking administrative duties commensurate with their position;
- Collaborating in the different activities of the Institute.
Job details:
The posts are full time, tenure track positions. Appointments at the
ranks of assistant and full researcher will be considered. The salary
will be determined according to the candidates’ qualifications and
experience. Besides their basic salary, researchers at INAOE receive a
complementary compensation based on their performance, and a scholarship
form the National Research System (if they qualify). As part of the
benefits, researchers can take up to three months a year for academic
visits to other institutions; as well as a sabbatical leave every six
years.
How to apply:
Applications should be submitted electronically and include the
following:
- Curriculum-vitae
- A maximum 5-page statement of research/teaching interests and plans,
stating your main
contributions and how you will liaise with INAOE's current researchers.
- The 3 most relevant papers.
- Contact information of three referees who can provide letters of
recommendation.
Application must be submitted before September 30, 2021. The positions
will remain open until filled.
Inquiries and submission to:
