I can tell you from experience that USB boot drives created with Ubuntu's USB creator work fine and have the boot sequence you'd expect from the CD. Why not create your Ubuntu USB drive with that tool instead? There is, of course, also the option of getting an external CD or DVD drive if nothing else works for you and you can't use Ubuntu's usb-creator for some reason.
