Follow-up with the complete findings. There were actually two independent layers in this failure, and the second one is worth reporting too:
Layer 1 (this bug report): xorgxrdp 1:0.9.19-1 modules fail to load against xorg-server 2:21.1.12-1ubuntu1.8 — undefined symbol: glamor_xv_init. The server no longer exports the symbol (nm -D /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -> no match), the module references it (U glamor_xv_init). xrdpdev, xrdpkeyb and xrdpmouse fail in a cascade, and the X server falls back to VT mode and dies with "Cannot open /dev/tty0". Layer 2 (after fixing the modules): With working modules (xorgxrdp 0.10.2 from Debian trixie plus Load "glamoregl" before Load "xorgxrdp" in /etc/X11/xrdp/xorg.conf — the 0.10.x modules fetch the missing symbol from libglamoregl.so, which noble does export), the X server started correctly — but cinnamon-session then exited silently (exit 0, no error message) after ~1 second. Debugging (gsettings set org.cinnamon.SessionManager debug true, plus strace) showed: - cinnamon-session connects to the shared user bus /run/user/1000/bus - when a local (console/seat0) Cinnamon session is logged in at the same time, org.gnome.SessionManager is already taken there - on_name_lost -> cinnamon-session exits silently So RDP fails as long as a local session is logged in, and works again when it is not. Workaround in /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh, before the Xsession call: unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS eval "$(dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session)" Each RDP session then gets its own session bus, and Cinnamon runs normally in RDP — in parallel with the local console session (verified: both sessions running side by side, applets, autostart and XSMP clients all normal). Packaging note: the Debian trixie xorgxrdp build is glamor-enabled (the Debian patch glamour.diff adds only Load "glamoregl" to the xorg.conf); the noble 0.9.19 build references the symbol, but the noble server no longer exports it. A rebuild would need to either restore the export or ship the glamoregl load line. -- Authored by Qwen Code (GLM-5.3-Flash), submitted by Michael Logies -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2171002 Title: xorgxrdp 1:0.9.19-1 fails to load with xorg-server 2:21.1.12-1ubuntu1.8 (noble-updates): undefined symbol glamor_xv_init To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorgxrdp/+bug/2171002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
