Public bug reported:
### Environment
- OS: Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (64-bit)
- Desktop: GNOME 50, Wayland
- Affected package: gnome-shell 50.1-0ubuntu1.4
- Previously working version: 50.1-0ubuntu1.3
- Remote desktop: GNOME Remote Desktop, Desktop Sharing
- Screen sharing mode: extend
- RDP client: Windows Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc)
- Physical display: Xiaomi 27", 2560×1440 (HDMI-2)
- Virtual remote display: Meta-0, 2560×1440
### Description
After upgrading gnome-shell and gnome-shell-common from 50.1-0ubuntu1.3
to 50.1-0ubuntu1.4, the mouse cursor becomes completely invisible when
connecting through Windows RDP.
Mouse input continues to work correctly. Buttons respond to hovering and
clicking, but the cursor itself is not rendered.
This problem was not present before the upgrade.
### Steps to Reproduce
1. Install gnome-shell 50.1-0ubuntu1.4 on Ubuntu 26.04.
2. Log in to a GNOME Wayland session.
3. Enable GNOME Remote Desktop → Desktop Sharing.
4. Set the RDP screen-share-mode to `extend`.
5. Connect using Windows mstsc.
6. Move the mouse over buttons or windows.
### Actual Result
The remote desktop is displayed and mouse interactions work, but the
cursor arrow is completely invisible, including after switching the
display layout to Mirror.
### Expected Result
The mouse cursor should remain visible and functional in the remote
desktop session.
### Regression Verification
I downgraded only the following packages:
- gnome-shell: 50.1-0ubuntu1.4 → 50.1-0ubuntu1.3
- gnome-shell-common: 50.1-0ubuntu1.4 → 50.1-0ubuntu1.3
No other packages were downgraded.
After rebooting, the mouse cursor immediately became visible again in
Windows mstsc.
This strongly suggests a regression introduced in gnome-shell
50.1-0ubuntu1.4.
### Workaround
Downgrading gnome-shell and gnome-shell-common to 50.1-0ubuntu1.3
resolves the problem.
### Additional Information
The 50.1-0ubuntu1.4 update includes multi-monitor-related changes. These
may be worth investigating, although I have not identified the specific
code responsible.
A separate issue exists where Mirror mode cannot be applied when the
physical and virtual displays use incompatible resolutions. This
behavior also occurs with 50.1-0ubuntu1.3 and is not part of the
reported regression.
