I can confirm the same behavior on a clean install of intrepid alpha 6
on an aspire one using ath5k

Another note on usability.

The prompt that nm-applet brings up does not have the password control
set as focus, and the connect button set as default, so you have to
click to into the edit control to enter the password and either use the
keyboard short cut for the button or use the mouse, it would be nice to
be able to just type the password and hit enter to continue.
