Now this is weird. I kept my system on the 2.6.27-4 kernel version, added this morning's udpates which were mostly for KDE4. Mouse suddenly quit working. After some deliberation I updated to the 2.6.27-7 kernel and now my external USB mouse, USB Stick and sdmedia all work fine.
