I have installed kde-l10n-ja and kde-i18n-ja packages. I can see in the kopete.po file from this page http://l10n.kde.org/stats/gui/stable- kde4/team/ja/kdenetwork/ that all status strings (i.e. Online, Away, Invisible, etc.) are translated. Or at least they seem to be as I can see these entries in the po file:

See screenshot attached. I have KDE 4.1.2 and Kopete 0.60.2 installed from latest Kubuntu packages.
