I Just ran into this issue. - I think that it's a potential show stopper
for someone that is new to the Ubuntu Experience, as they might not be
able to figure out how to get their system back to normal.

I did write a little update on it on my blog, and I'm putting it here in
case someone is baffled.

>From Grub boot into:

Ubuntu 9.04 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovery mode)

Pick Root [drop to shell prompt]

>From this Shell Terminal do a:

Apt-get remove alarm-clock

Exit back out and re-boot System
